2002, Matthew founded the Landlord and Investor Group (LIG) -- one of the country's largest real
estate investment associations. With more than 2,000
members, LIG
helps investors excel in the real estate industry by educating and
sharing best practices and time-proven strategies with its members.
He is the best selling author of two investing books: 2 Years to a Million in Real Estate and Investing in Apartment Buildings (both published by McGraw-Hill). His third book, How To Make Money In Real Estate -- In The New Economy, will be published in August 2010. He is a spokesperson for Intuit's property management division, a guest speaker at The Learning Annex and an AOL Real Estate Coach.
Matthew serves on the housing committee for Travelers Aid Family Services,
a non-profit founded in 1920 to assist the poor and
disadvantaged with their housing needs. He is also a member of the Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership's (MBHP) Board of Directors. MBHP helps individuals and families find and retain affordable housing. MBHP is one of the country's largest providers of rental voucher assistance, serving the homeless, elderly, disabled, and low- and moderate-income residents.
The Matthew A. Martinez Real Estate Fund awards scholarships to economically disadvantaged single parents so they may pursue a degree at a college, community college or university. The scholarship was established to help low-income families break the cycle of poverty and achieve economic self sufficiency.
